Housing Quality Standards (HQS) Inspection

Get a Housing Quality Inspection.

<p>You can request a Housing Quality Standards inspection from the City's Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) if you are a participant in the HPD Section 8 program. This inspection is required to confirm that a HPD Section 8 subsidized apartment is decent, safe, and sanitary, and meets minimum physical standards set by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).</p> <p>HPD conducts inspections before a tenant enters into a Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) contract with the owner and at least once a year after admission into the Section 8 Program. <p>The Department of Finance (Finance) holds cash bail in criminal cases. Generally about 6 weeks after a case is closed, the court sends a cash bail refund order to Finance. The City accepts reports of damaged or dirty automatic public toilets. Problems may include broken glass, flooding, graffiti, broken or poor lighting, structural damage, lack of supplies, or operating issues.<br><br>The City also accepts requests for the placement of new automatic public toilets.<br><br>A private company installs and maintains automatic public toilets based on agreements with the City. The City reports complaints to the contractor and monitors the contractor's work. The City works closely with local community boards and other parties to identify new sites for automatic public toilets. Toilets can only be placed in areas that meet specific structural requirements, so land surveys are an important part of the selection process.
