Description
Join Prospect Park Alliance, Éenda-Lunaapeewáhkiing Collective and American Indian Community House for the Third United Lenape / Lunaapeew Nations Pow Wow at the LeFrak Center at Lakeside in Prospect Park. This free, two-day public event welcomes the original Indigenous Lenape peoples who were forced to relocate across the continent back to their ancestral homelands to unite together again to share their cultures with Brooklynites today. Pow Wows are gatherings where Lenape/Lunáapeew and neighboring Indigenous nations socialize and celebrate life. Prospect Park hosted formal Pow Wows from 1916 to 1972. Reviving this tradition in Prospect Park provides the Lenape/Lunáapeew an opportunity to celebrate their culture in their homelands and offers Brooklynites of all backgrounds the chance to enjoy the drumming, dancing, singing, art, crafts and foods of the original stewards of this land.

Description
Take a docent led tour of the Conference House Museum also known as the Billiopp House located on Staten Island, New York and overlooking the Raritan Bay. This two-story grand fieldstone house was built by powerful landowner Royal Navy Captain Christopher Billopp About 1680. He wanted a home that would be an expression of his massive wealth, as well as a symbol of the stability of the colonies.  Nearly a century later the Billopp House had become a center of colonial hospitality. Billopp’s great-grandson, loyal to the crown, offered his ancestral family home as the site of a meeting of great importance. It is Named The Conference House because it is the site of the only Peace Conference of the American Revolution. Continental Congress representatives Benjamin Franklin, John Adams and Edward Rutledge met here with British Admiral Lord Howe at his request on September 11,1776 in an unsuccessful effort to stop the American Revolution. The Americans had already written and signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4,1776 and their course would not be altered. Though the group discusses options for a peaceful cessation of hostilities, no agreement was reached and the fighting continued for seven years.Today the Conference House Museum presents an interpretation of an 18th century colonial manor to the general public. The building is owned by NYC Parks and operated by the Conference House Association as a historic house museum in partnership with the Historic Trust of NYC.

Description
Join us for a Meet the Artist program with Van Lier Community Trust Fellows Tarik Jeremiah Brown and Camille Cooper. At 2PM, Brown will discuss his site-responsive installation, Hush Harbor, which transforms the Sunroom into a contemporary, antebellum hush harbor—a secret gathering place of refuge and worship for enslaved people--through sculpture, moving image, and sound. This project draws on themes of Black survival and faith, exploring ideas related to embodied belief and the relationship between spirit and land. At 3PM, Cooper will discuss his Sun Porch exhibition, SHOWPIECE, which takes up entomological study as a metaphor for the ways trans and gender-variant people are scrutinized and classified by society. Cooper transforms the Sun Porch into an insectarium full of sculptural bugs contextual to the grounds of Wave Hill, fabricated from the packaging of hormone replacement therapy and other trans ephemera. This afternoon program includes conversations with the exhibiting artists and the activation of works on display.  Meet the Artist is an ongoing series of conversations between exhibiting artists, the curatorial team, and sometimes invited guests at Wave Hill. As part of the Sunroom Project Space, this program is designed collaboratively with the artists and takes various forms. Meet the Artist offers visitors, the artist's community, and others an opportunity to gain insight into the artist's creative process and the themes present in their work. Registration encouraged but not required, online or by calling 718.549.3200 x251.

Description
The Art Students League of New York and the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation invite you to the opening of Works in Public in Riverside Park at 145th Street, celebrating sculptures by Lindsey Francis Jones and Clare Burson.Lindsey Francis Jones, City in Shapes, City in FishCity in Shapes, City in Fish invites viewers into the artist’s visual language through a cityscape of abstract shapes and color. Inspired by the craft and community of printmaking, the work incorporates images of six fish etched onto selected plexiglass, contributed by fellow printmakers and artists: Laurissa Widrick, Felix Bladbjerg, Kait Waldman, Stan Overstreet, Barbara Ganmen, and Scarlett Patino.Clare Burson, Unearthed.UNEARTHED is an installation of three steel forms inspired by the ancient Plain of Jars in Laos. It asks us to consider the inevitable and unexpected ways that history imposes itself on the present. When experienced with its accompanying soundscape, UNEARTHED also reminds us that our shared public spaces are nexus points for an infinite number of narratives that connect individuals and communities across time, those who lived here before us and those who will come after us.

The Art Students League of New York and the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation invite you to the opening of Works in Public in Riverside Park South, celebrating sculptures by Alicia Ehni and Robert Franca.About the Artists & ArtAlicia Ehni, Balancing A Peruvian shaman once told Ehni to carry a lemon in her purse, that it brings great harmony in life and in interactions with others. Two fractured pre-Columbian ceramics carry ancient coastal knowledge, opening possibilities to imagine a different future. Balancing reflects on the fragile relationships between people, nature, and the built environment.Robert Franca, The ChairsThe Chairs explores family as the foundation through which we understand ourselves and the world. Seen through a child’s perspective, the chairs embody imagination, openness, and freedom from conventional rules. Their human-like forms suggest movement and the ability to change. Ultimately, the chairs speak to the importance of finding balance — within ourselves, within families, and in navigating the challenges and uncertainties of an ever-changing world.
